Top 3 Concerns for Heating, Plumbing and Maintenance Companies with field based Engineers.

At VanCert we speak to 100's of Engineers & Maintenance companies daily. We listen to their challenges and develop our software in order to help them overcome those challenges.

This Blog aims to delve into the top three concerns we are hearing lately Heating, Plumbing & Maintenance Companies with field based Engineers and provides examples of how some of our customers have overcome those challenges.

1) The need to reduce costs, become more efficient and cost effective in a competitive market.

It’s a no brainer really…if you reduce your costs (and overheads) you will be able to provide a more competitive service to your customers.

If you have 5, 10, 15+ engineers out on the road, one of the key ways to immediately reduce costs would be to reduce fuel expenses.

With VanCert you are able to reduce your expenses a few ways:

  1. Increase the number jobs per day by maximising engineer time in the

  2. Save transport costs by eliminating unnecessary journeys to and from the office

  3. Improve access rates and reduce the number of missed appointments

One of our customers Angela at DCL UK has been able to save £1,000 per month by using VanCert.

Prior to using the system, Angela’s 5 Property Maintenance engineers would have to come into the office for a run-down of the previous days jobs. This would take an hour a day (from 1 x Manager and 5 x Engineers), and cost a lot in fuel expenses but would provide Angela with all of the necessary information and paperwork (including job sheets) to invoice clients and run the business.

With the adoption of VanCert, Angela doesn’t need to hold a daily office meeting with her engineers as all of the information she needs is stored against each job (including documentation and job sheets) and she is able to invoice clients as soon as the engineer closes down the job.

The time she has gained back has enabled Angela to schedule more jobs per day for her engineers and allowed her more time to develop new business.

2) The need to provide better informational access and digital certification to landlords, letting agencies and housing associations.

Generally the majority of the people we speak to perform work for a combination of Domestic, Commercial, Private Landlords and Housing Association clients.

Government pressures for Landlords to become ‘100% complaint’ for Gas work especially has been the driving force for Housing Associations, Private Landlords and their Contractors to adopt a digital certification tool like VanCert.

Great Places Housing Group use Proline Group as their Contractor and have just celebrated 1 year at 100% Compliancy. When asked about the importance of using a digital solution to manage their gas safety work, Rachel from Great Places commented, “We totally rely on VanCert as a computerised system to manage this contract as 100% accuracy and efficiency is essential.”

3) Delays in access to job documentation and information from engineers, whether for invoicing purposes, quotes or follow up work.

There are lots of reasons that this one is a major concern for companies with field based engineers.

Ever heard of the term ‘paper-less office’? The ‘Trades’ are one of the few remaining Industries still clinging onto those pens and paper - adding on hours of admin time to their lives in the process.

In this day and age, as well as clicking a button to send professional documents from your mobile device, if you or your engineers can invoice work, from site, as soon as the job is finished - why would you not?
